The Upper Nazareth Fire Dept. was dispatched for a full response with Bushkill Township Fire Dept. at 749 Lahr Rd. for a working dwelling fire. Bushkill’s engine 5211 was first on scene and responded down a long lane to the house. 5431 Tanker/Engine was on scene shortly thereafter and advanced a 5 inch supply line from Lahr Rd, at the entrance to the lane for water supply operations via tanker task force. The fire already was advanced and was through the roof as the first engine arrived on scene. Fire crews were hampered by freezing temperatures of 1 degree and wind chills of -15 degrees. Challenges we faced was freezing valves and hose couplings along with walking hazards on the fire ground because of icy surface conditions. One Bushkill police officer was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation when he was helping to move a attack line and the wind rapidly shifted and he was slightly overcome. Units remained on scene for 7 hours before being released.
