Safety for extreme winter conditions!
Tips include dressing warmly, driving slowly, and preparing your home and car for winter weather.

USE COMMON SENSE

Dressing warmly
Wear layers of loose-fitting clothing
Wear a hat, scarf, and mittens
Wear water-resistant boots and a coat
Stay dry, as moisture can increase heat loss

Driving safely
Slow down and increase following distance
Avoid sudden stops and quick direction changes
Keep your seat belt buckled
Clean snow and ice from your car, including the top, windows, mirrors, and lights
Check your battery, fluid levels, tire tread, and wiper blades
Preparing your home

Use generators and grills outdoors and away from windows
Follow safety precautions when using a fireplace, space heater, or woodstove
Keep flammable materials away from heat sources
Use screens to prevent sparks
Use proper ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby

Preparing an emergency kit
Include a flashlight, extra batteries, non-perishable food, bottled water, a first aid kit, and a blanket
